The beach has a wide expanse of sand, ideal for activities such as soccer, and volleyball. The wind and waves at Recreio dos Bandeirantes Beach are strong here, making it great for surfing and wind surfing. A favorite with surfers, it also holds many surf and body-boarding championships. The buildings around this area aren't very tall, which helps keep the sun on the beach from sunrise to sunset. Cycling along the bicycle path is usually the favorite pastime for those in the neighborhood, there is a dedicated bicycle path which follows the length of the beach and beyond. The eleven kilometer stretch offers kiosks, selling food and beverages along the way. At the end of Avenida Sernambetiba is a nearly three kilometer long cove with beautiful scenery.The neighborhood has the cleanest and most reserved beaches in the city, which include Recreio, Pontal, Macumba, Prainha and Abricó a nudist beach. Pontal Rock marks the beginning of Pontal Beach and has become a reference thanks to Tim Maia’s song “Do Leme ao Pontal”.
