On our visit, the big theme on the museum was the automatism and robotics initiated by the clock makers of Le-Chaux-de-Fonds in the XVIII century. Jaquez-Droz was its most prominent figure. He built 3 complex mechanical figurines designed for a particular task — the earliest of robots. The Writer, the Musician and the Draughtsman were exhibited in La-Chaux-de-Fonds for the first time in 1774. After that they were exhibited around Europe for many decades until being acquired by Neuchâtel and placed permanently on exhibition in the “Musée d’Art et d’Histoire“. Regularly the “Musée d’Art et d’Histoire” holds demonstrations of the 3 androids during summer. Reservations are required.
