Visitors can enjoy a mix of traditional and cosmopolitan life. Walk along the pretty harbour where the fishermen are selling local fresh fish and mending their nets, to the expensive yachts which have traveled from afar to visit this beautiful Island. Much of the evening activity is concentrated along its waterfronts and around Solomus and St Marks Squares, the latter having restaurants and pastry shops whose tables and umbrellas spill out onto the pavements. Here visitors can not only enjoy the friendliness, humour and hospitality of the townspeople but also sample the locally producted wines and specialities including mandalato, white nougat with nuts and Pasteli, a buscuit-like confection with sesame seeds.
