This waterfall was much, much better than I had hoped. The trail up Frye Brook leads to three waterfalls. At about 2/10 of a mile, you'll reach the lowest tier, also known as The Churn, is a breathtaking 50' tiered plunge into a deep gorge. There is a fence along the top that keeps people back from the tight gorge and sheer drop. I would have made the somewhat difficult scramble into the gorge for a better photo, but I had my son with me. I try to neither set a bad example or fall to my death in front of him, dontchya know? In another 1/10 of a mile, you reach the middle falls, also known as The Cataract, is a more user friendly waterfall. A short scramble leads to the edge of the stream, giving a clear view of a 15' sliding cascade into a shallow pool. Another 2/10 of a mile up the trail, you reach the final tier, also known as The Flume, is a 20' drop at the head of a walled gorge with a short 5' drop into a pool at the exit of the formation. Below the pool, you'll find a broad rocky beach, mostly basketball sized (and larger) granite rocks. The trail continues past the falls and leads to the top of Little Baldpate Mountain.
