The Tamar Valley is an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) and is within the World Heritage Site for Cornish Mining. This area is still an unspoilt gem just waiting to be explored. Opportunities abound for leisure activities of every kind, walking and cycling on the new Tamar Trails, canoeing on the Tamar, Tree Surfing, horse riding and walking on the moors and all the water sports on the beautiful north and south coasts.
There are several local pubs with good reputations for food. The Rifle Volunteer, St. Anne's Chapel is within 15 minutes walk. The Cross House Inn, Metherell and The Carpenter's Arms, Lower Metherell are within 5 minutes drive and many more eating places within 10-15 minutes drive.
If visiting NT properties and gardens is to your taste, there are many beautiful properties to visit in the area. Cothele House, garden, historic quay and water mill is just 1 mile from the lodges. The Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan are each approx 30 mins drive.
For a brilliant day out for all the family, you can take the Tamar Valley Railway Line from Gunnislake to Plymouth crossing the Tamar over the Calstock viaduct and running alongside the Brunel bridge into Plymouth. Spend time at the National Aquarium, explore old Plymouth and the Dock Yards, stroll along and enjoy the views from Plymouth Hoe or shop to your heart's content, there is something for everyone.
