well known for it's beauty and great natural diversity, the parque nacional da chapada diamantina was created in 1985 inside an area of 152 thousand hectares, and is found in the centre of the state of bahia.chapada diamantina is one of the most popular tourist spots in bahia, with much to offer within nature and amongst an abundance of flora and fauna. you can discover caves, gorges, canyons, waterfalls and rivers. the parque nacional da chapada diamantina is made up of a number of areas and towns and the most well known are lençóis, andaraí, palmeiras, and mucugé, as well as a number of small, pretty villages, full of natural beauty and tourist points in the chapada diamantina.the gorgeous vegetation within the chapada diamantina is perfect for exploring throughout the region and is perfect for those who love adventure.there are savannas between the mountains, where you can find and explore caves, follow the ancient trails of the goldminers, bathe in the refreshing waterfalls of the park and breathe in the clean mountain air. amongst the most popular tourist attractions of the chapada diamantina are the cachoeira da fumaça - a waterfall with a freefall of 380m, the poço encantado (the enchanted pool) and the morro do pai inácio. the cachoeira da fumaça is one of the most famous waterfalls in brazil and the leaving point for the 7k trail to the vale do capão. the poço encantado is in the town of itaité and is one of the most sought after tourist attractions within the park. the best time to visit the pool is between april and september when a natural phenomena leaves the water of the pool a stunning blue colour. the 400m path up the morro do pai inácio starts from the road giving easy access to the top of the hill. at 1,150m above sea level, it is possible to see the regions of sincorá, bacia and chapadinha. it is situated about 30k from the centre of lençois and is about a 5 hour walk to the base of the hill.
