The origins of the Razza Bovina Reggiana are very ancient, indeed historical sources date back the arrival of this cattle in our country to the Barbaric invasions. This cattle was already present in Reggio and Parma area seven centuries ago, when we had the first certain news of that cheese later known as Parmigiano Reggiano. Since then and until today the fates of the breed have been linked to this production; the Reggiana breed, therefore, can boast the title of ?mother? of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. Many elements characterise and differentiate the Reggiana breed, a good size animal, slightly bigger than the average of the species, with a long trunk and a distinct head and uniform red coat, hence the name ?red cow?.
