Dedicated to Lord Shiva, there are numerous stories around the mystic and divine elements of Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple. Exhibiting a marvelous rock-cut architecture, this cave temple in Bangalore is considered unique due to the two huge discs in the foreground of its shrine. During the auspicious festival of Maha Sankranti in January, thousands of devotees come here to witness a celestial event. On this day, as the sun begins to set, a beam of light shoots under the arch of the temple's western wall passing through Nandi's horns and resulting in illumination of the Shivlinga in the cave. It seems as if the sun is paying homage to the deity. Also known as Gavipuram Cave Temple, a major attraction here is a rare idol of Lord Agni having two heads, seven hands and three legs. The temple has a beautiful image of Shakti Ganpati as well.
