The Cogels Osylei is listed (protected) as urban landscape and almost every house in the Cogels Osylei is on the list of architectural heritage of Flanders. This way, this beautiful flemish heritage is preserved for the future and for the next generations. Many of the houses are renovated with the support of the Flemish community. What a difference with the 1950's when most of the houses were neglected and an even bigger difference with the 1960's when there were plans to demolish all the house and to built a 'modern' housing estate instead. Lucky for us several architects in the 1960's protested against the planned demolition and saved the Cogels Osylei.
