(English) S t. John's church with its "Gouda Windows" has for many centuries been the principal monument of the town. Besides, with its length of 123 metres, it is the longest church of the Netherlands. By far the greater part of the present churchbuilding dates from the years after the fire of 1552. During a renovation that was finished in 1593 the church was given the form of a late-gothic basilica. St. John's Church is famous for its splendid sixteenth century stained-glass windows: the "Gouda Windows". More than half of all the Dutch stained-glass windows from the second half of the sixteenth century are to be seen in this church. That is why a visit to St. John's is so captivating and impressive and will leave an unforgettable memory. It is to give you an impression of it that this CD-ROM was composed.
