After releasing our Trail Wallet app we finally had a chance to explore more of Playa del Carmen (our current base in Mexico). After snorkelling with turtles in Akumal (amazing!), our next trip was to Cenote Chaak Tun to swim in an underground cavern. The Yucatan peninsular has many cenotes (sinkholes) as it sits above one of the largest underground river systems in the world. Cenote Chaak Tun consists of three caves, two of them cenotes where you can swim in the chilly crystal clear water amongst dripping stalactites and the occasional bat. It’s an atmospheric experience, especially if you have it to yourself which is definitely possible as it’s quieter than the more well known cenotes.Entrance to Cenote Chaak Tun is 200 pesos (including helmet and life vest) and it’s easily reached from Playa del Carmen in about 20 minutes by taxi (70-100 pesos). Ask your taxi driver to return for you in about two hours. It’s located at the end of Avenida Juarez.
