This is the first cemetery for the town of Virginia City. It was used for the burial of all those who first came to this area as well as those who died with their boots on, so to speak. Some buried here died in the flu epidemic of 1862, however many of those were later removed to another cemetery. There is evidence of many unmarked graves. It is not known how many are actually buried here. This is all that I was able to find names for and each is displayed with a marker, which may or may not be over the actual burial site. I visited and read this cemetery in Aug 23, 2003, using my digital camera. - Maggie Rail
